Screening, Bonding & Insurance

Screening - Beginning in 2008 a national criminal background check is performed through the Oregon State Police.

Bonding - Caregivers are fidelity-bonded (theft).

Liability Insurance - Caregivers are insured for liability (not Worker's Compensation). NOTE: Clients should check homeowner’s insurance for adequate liability coverage.

Note about Auto Insurance -Our liability policy does NOT cover caregivers while driving. We check caregiver auto insurance cards upon admittance to our registry but cannot guarantee that it remains current after they are accepted.  Therefore, clients should verify that caregiver auto insurance is current, consider providing their own transportation.

Training Level

80% of our caregivers have nursing assistant or healthcare-related backgrounds, such as naturopathic studies. Caregivers take ongoing education at their own expenses.

Taxes & Worker's Compensation

Taxes - Caregiver Connection is a referral service that matches caregivers for direct hire. Because caregivers are generally considered domestic employees of clients, we do not pay, track or report caregiver earnings. Caregivers are generally considered domestic employees of clients and are responsible for withholdings when they pay caregivers over $1600 in a calendar year (2008). We recommend consulting with a tax professional and/or enlisting a payroll service such are Paychex (503.620.6800).

Worker’s Compensation - Caregivers are generally viewed as domestic employees of clients; worker’s compensation is NOT covered in this arrangement. Check homeowners insurance for adequate liability coverage. Caregivers are covered for liability.
